ABSTRACT
Throughout this study we analyze the soviet linguistics’ tradition and the ideas of Valentin Nikolaevich Voloshinov (1895-1936). The fundamental issues to be explored have to do with the relationship among thought, language and ideology, and with the relationship between the former and the socioeconomic processes, as we can observe in Voloshinov’s most important work, Marksizm i Filosofiya Yazyká (Leningrad, 1929). As a consequence of our investigation, we will give an account of those notions that are related to the Marxist social theory and its development during the cultural, political and social flourishment associated with the Russian Revolution in the beginning of the 20th century. Moreover, à propos a possible application of Voloshinov’s conception of language and ideology regarding social studies, we will explore the validity of considering its compatibility with the branch of psychoanalytic theory on social and cultural analysis.
