Abstract: One of the major preoccupations of the foreign language teachers remains the question of knowing what language to teach to students. In this article, the author recognises the value of eclecticism in the learning process and attempts a review of some linguistic approaches whose influence in the didactics of languages is unquestionable. In addition, the author also indicates that the function of a language is first and foremost interactive, communicative. He consequently considers the classroom as the symbol of interactions between the learners and teachers, and among learners; the main protagonists of the learning / teaching process.
